Manchester United have opted to keep teenage goalkeeper Elyh Harrison at the club for the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old was recalled from his loan at National League North side Chester earlier this month.

Despite interest from League One and League Two clubs, Harrison will stay at Old Trafford for now.

That is according to Simon Stone for BBC Sport.

He was on the bench for United’s 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Elyh Harrison joined Chester in August and quickly established himself as a key player.

He kept seven clean sheets in 18 league appearances, conceding just 16 goals in total.

His performances helped Chester climb the table, earning valuable senior experience.

United believe he would benefit from a loan at a higher level in the future.

A new loan move could be arranged for the second half of the 2024/25 season.

Harrison was named United’s Reserve Player of the Year last season after excelling for the U18s and U21s.

His shot-stopping ability was crucial in the U18s’ Premier League Cup win over Manchester City.

The teenager signed his first professional contract with United in March 2023, just after turning 17.

He initially joined the club from Stevenage Town on a scholarship deal.

The club has high hopes for his future, believing he has the potential to break into the first team.

For now, he will continue training with United’s senior squad and developing his game at Carrington.

United fans will be hoping that the goalkeeping department can soon be ironed out in terms of set choices.

Altay Bayindir is still to convince Ruben Amorim, as is Andre Onana who has struggled this season.

It’s not a new issue however – the Red Devils had to deal with uncertainty around Dean Henderson’s future when he was competing with David de Gea under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
