Manchester United, as a club, have been starting their 2025-26 season with the aim of success.
The aim of success is no different in the women’s area of the club, where United will be aiming for an improvement on their third place finish from last season.
In the new season, the women’s side will face many sides including powerhouses Chelsea and local rivals Manchester City.
But, in the opening weeks of the season, the side will face sides such as London City Lionesses and Arsenal.
Now, the team have completed their first game of the new league season as they opened their campaign with a commanding win.
Today, the women’s side faced Leicester City who have become a consistent name in the top tier of English women’s football.
But, the Midlands outfit faced a chaotic build-up to the new Women’s Super League campaign which saw their coach, Amandine Miquel dismissed and saw the Foxes lose key player Ruby Mace to Everton on a deadline day.
Therefore, the result, which saw Marc Skinner’s United side win 4-0, arguably wasn’t a surprise.
A goal from Ella Toone, who was congratulated in a statement following the Lionesses’ success in the summer, and a header from Elisabeth Terland, who had scored four goals in United’s two European games against PSV Eindhoven and Hammarby, put the women’s team 2-0 up at half-time.
Then, following some excellent saves from Leicester ‘keeper Janina Leitzig, Melvine Malard was able to turn home a third goal for Manchester United.
Following this, Malard drilled a powerful shot into the goal from outside the penalty area to ensure United claimed all three points.
Now, attention will turn towards the women’s side crucial European contest against Norwegian side SK Brann which takes place on Thursday following their victory in the last round.
