Finally, Manchester United and Porto last met in the 2008/09 Champions League quarter-finals.

A season in which United won both the Premier League and League Cup.

However, fell short of retaining their Champions League title, losing to Barcelona in the final.

In the first leg at Old Trafford, Porto shocked United by securing a 2-2 draw, giving the Portuguese side a crucial advantage with two away goals.

Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney were the goalscorer for United, but Porto’s were now favourites for the tie.

Heading into the second leg in Portugal, United needed a strong performance to overturn the away goal deficit.

Just six minutes into the game, Cristiano Ronaldo delivered a moment of brilliance with a spectacular long-range strike, giving United a 1-0 lead.

That goal would prove decisive, as Porto were unable to break down United’s defense.

With the 1-0 win in the second leg, United progressed to the semi-finals, keeping their hopes of back-to-back Champions League titles alive—though they would ultimately fall short in the final against Barcelona.
