Fresh off the back of Manchester United winning 2-1 over local rivals Manchester City, The Red Devils are on the verge of confirming the successful extension of one of their key men.
United emerged victorious despite going 1-0 down in the first half to the head of Josko Gvardiol, with United falling foul to yet another corner.
However, the strong back line of Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez prevented any further upsets, whilst Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes supported at the other end of the pitch with two vital goals.
However, two of these stars, Maguire and Diallo are at risk of leaving the club, with their contracts ending in the summer.
Ruben Amorim is keen to retain both stars with contract negotiations ongoing with the pair.
Yesterday, Maguire confirmed that talks around an extension of his contract have begun, saying: “Yeah, talks are ongoing and all the signs are positive at the moment. The chat that I’m having is really positive.”
As for Diallo, with the youngster being such a strong part of Amorim’s system, the club have been working on an extension for some time.
It’s been known that Amad Diallo has wanted to remain at Old Trafford, having previously commented: “[My footballing dream is] to win more trophies with the club. I want to win a lot of trophies. Champions League, Premier League, everything. I want to win with this club, that is my dream.”
Now Football Insider has reported that Manchester United are on the brink of announcing the successful extension of Diallo’s contract.
Whilst there are still some details to iron out, they are being reported as more of a “formality” rather than anything that could throw the extension into question.
