Manchester United are now only a week away from kicking off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign as they host Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Unfortunately this will see Ruben Amorim reunite with his former star striker, Viktor Gyokeres, however not in the way the Portuguese boss will have wanted.
Since Amorim moved to United from Sporting CP, The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Gyokeres, with the club desperate to sign a new, in-form striker.
Gyokeres was initially looking to follow Amorim to Old Trafford, however opted for the Emirates instead, with Benjamin Sesko becoming Amorim’s new first-choice striker.
However, with The Red Devils having just played and won their final pre-season game against Fiorentina in a dramatic penalty shoot-out, Sesko is set to head into the league without any game experience with his new teammates.

As such, The Times have now reported that United are exploring the possibility of arranging another pre-season friendly, this time behind-closed-doors against a local rival, to give not only Sesko a chance to get a game under his belt, but also Andre Onana.
The Cameroon international has been out of action all pre-season due to a hamstring injury that’s seen Altay Bayindir take to the pitch in his place.
The last time that Onana took to the field was in United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Unfortunately this is not an occasion Onana will want to remember, and certainly not the last experience to have going into a opening fixture with last season’s Premier League runners-up.
Whilst no further details have been revealed as of yet, with time ticking away, more information will surely emerge over the coming days.
