Manchester United’s chaotic season continues to unravel with just days remaining before their biggest match of the campaign.

The Red Devils have already lost a staggering 17 league games – their worst tally since the 1973-74 season – and sit an embarrassing 16th in the table.

Ruben Amorim has struggled to inject life into a broken squad since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, with exits from both the FA Cup and League Cup compounding a miserable domestic run.

The Europa League final against Tottenham now represents both a last chance at silverware and a route into next season’s Champions League.

Yet even that lifeline may not be enough to rescue the Portuguese tactician’s reputation.

After a flat 2-0 home loss to West Ham, Ruben Amorim looked defeated on the touchline and delivered an emotional post-match message suggesting he might step aside if things don’t change.

Despite the poor league form, Manchester United have decided to keep faith in Amorim for next season — even if he loses the final in Bilbao on 21 May, as per The Guardian.

Club chiefs reportedly believe the 39-year-old deserves a proper transfer window to rebuild the squad in his image and eliminate what he described as a toxic mentality within the dressing room.

“The most dangerous thing for a big club is to no longer fear losing,” Amorim said after the West Ham defeat.

He went on to urge the club to be “brave” this summer and hinted that sweeping changes are necessary if United are to avoid another humiliating campaign.

Top of Amorim’s wishlist are Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Ipswich’s rising star Liam Delap.

But with both players carrying hefty price tags — Cunha’s release clause sits at £62.5 million and Delap’s at £30 million — United must sell before they can buy.

One of the big names expected to leave is Marcus Rashford.

The England international is currently on loan at Aston Villa, who have a £40 million option to buy him.

However, United may opt to sell him elsewhere if a more lucrative offer comes in.

A summer shake-up is looming as Ruben Amorim looks towards his first summer transfer window for United.
