For those who are keen to follow the progress of future Manchester United players, there has been some irritancy at the lack of coverage provided by MUTV.
There have been less and less matches broadcast on the club’s TV channel and with the cutback on resources not involving the first team, subscriptions for the channel has slumped with many giving up.
However, in a positive step there will be four academy matches broadcast in eight days from Saturday onwards according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Old Manchester United legend Darren Fletcher and his Under 18’s will look to continue their 100 percent start to the season at home to Burnley on September 13th.
Travis Binnion’s Under 21’s will play Brackley Town in the National League Cup on September 16th, whilst the Under 18’s Trip to Wolves on September 20th and the Under 21’s subsequent game at Liverpool the day after will also be broadcast.
Club channels and their importance over the years has changed with the emergence of social media, utilising different methods to appeal to a fanbase whilst showcasing more youth games is an innovative method to keep viewers and subscriptions engaged.
There are many key players to look out for and watch in the youth setup from JJ Gabriel to Wayne Rooney’s son Kai.
Of course, the MUTV channel wouldn’t want to just be a channel littered with youth academy live games, but if the games are there to be broadcast and people watch them then it could be something to continue doing.
The worry may be of late that because of the sheer obsession at United for success coupled with the anger from United fans, the desperation for success means that if it works, everyone will be happy.
That’s why signing Prem-proven players seems to have gone down well with everyone but that doesn’t mean for one second that the youth system should be neglected.
Instead, a light should be shone on players coming through the ranks and this is a brilliant way to do it.
