Concerns over Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United manager had emerged towards the end of the previous season when the Red Devils finished eighth in the league.
Despite this, the Dutchman was offered a new, albeit short, contract after securing the FA Cup in May.
However, following the latest defeat, questions surrounding Ten Hag’s tenure have resurfaced, and they seem to be more pressing than ever.
Valentijn Driessen, a prominent and reliable Dutch journalist, reported in his column for De Telegraaf.
He strongly claimed that Ten Hag’s time at Manchester United is over.
Driessen stated, “His time at United is over,” indicating that the 54-year-old’s position at the club might come to an end sooner rather than later.
The weekend loss to Liverpool, managed by Ten Hag’s compatriot Arne Slot, added to the mounting pressure.

Notably, Liverpool, despite not fielding any new signings, have managed to win all three of their Premier League matches this season.
Before the clash against Liverpool, Erik ten Hag had claimed that Manchester United was the second most successful team over the past two seasons, only behind Manchester City.
However, Driessen pointed out that the manager conveniently overlooked the fact that United finished eighth in the league last season.
The journalist attributed much of Manchester United’s struggles to Erik ten Hag, suggesting that his public statements are not helping the situation.
Driessen further remarked, “Although despite discussions with other candidates, the club ultimately expressed its confidence in Ten Hag. How long this confidence will last remains to be seen.”

He continued, “Something like that can happen, but the way in which Liverpool, who were not even playing at their best, played Ten Hag’s team into a pathetic pile, rubbed extra salt in the wound.
“It could easily have been 7-1 or 8-2.
“The Brazilian Casemiro was the target, but it is Ten Hag who sets him up and continues to choose him.
“Although this time he intervened during half-time.”
The Dutch journalist also highlighted the scrutiny Ten Hag faces from the English media and former United players.
He said, “Ten Hag faces the same ordeal as Casemiro.
“The English media have sharpened their knives, and this also applies to the army of analysts with many former English stars, and former top United players such as Roy Keane.

“Ten Hag previously banned journalists who criticized him and his players or stopped speaking to them.”
Driessen concluded, “Ten Hag gives everyone ammunition to fire.”
“According to the club management, Ten Hag was the best trainer for United.
“The new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has stepped in with big plans, but his judgment regarding Ten Hag is a mistake.
”His time [at Manchester United] has passed.”
It’s important to note that this is not the first time the Dutch media has been critical of Erik ten Hag.
His repeated interviews, where he distances himself from blame and criticizes others, have not been well-received in the Netherlands.
