Manchester United’s financial struggles have opened the door for rivals to take advantage.

Clubs are offering instant cash to buy out sell-on clauses in deals for former United players.

The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reports that multiple clubs are considering bids.

They aim to remove the clauses and secure more long-term profits, while United receive immediate funds.

United have often inserted sell-on clauses when selling players.

These guarantee them a percentage of any future transfer profit.

But their current financial crisis has made them vulnerable to short-term solutions.

Since 2019, they have been operating at a loss and now risk breaching PSR regulations.

With up to 39% of non-playing staff potentially leaving, United’s past transfer failures are under scrutiny.

Several ex-United players have thrived after leaving the club.

The French side paid £26.6m for his registration and will make a huge profit when they sell him.

Short-term gain, long-term risk for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS

United stand to receive a significant portion of that resale fee.

Hannibal Mejbri’s move to Burnley also included a 50% sell-on clause.

Scott McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, now at Napoli and West Ham, are also expected to have clauses in their deals.

According to The Telegraph, some clubs are now looking to buy out these clauses before June 30.

That is the deadline when PSR figures are locked in, making quick cash even more valuable for United.

Selling these clauses may provide United with short-term financial relief.

But it could cost them millions in the long run if these players continue to rise in value.
