Manchester United’s long-term rebuild under Ruben Amorim won’t be complete with just one positive result, no matter how significant.

The recent draw at Anfield reminded everyone of the quality present in the squad.

However, it also highlighted inconsistencies that continue to plague the team.

United’s ability to raise their level for big games raises the question of why they can’t maintain that standard throughout the season.

Transfers will play a crucial role in addressing this.

Fresh competition and new faces are necessary to keep the squad motivated and aligned with Amorim’s vision.

The summer transfer window will present an opportunity to reshape the squad.

Although, it also brings urgency with several players nearing the end of their contracts.

In defence, the potential departures of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf, whose deals are set to expire, will leave gaps that must be filled.

Lisandro Martínez remains the only natural left-footed centre-back in the squad, meaning United lack adequate cover in that role.

Adding another left-sided defender will be essential to provide balance and depth.

According to AfricaFoot, SC Braga’s Sikou Niakaté has emerged as a potential solution for United.

Amorim’s side have been monitoring him for a summer move.

Niakate, a 25-year-old Malian centre-back, has impressed in the Europa League.

Amorim is familiar with his qualities from his time managing in Portugal.

However, Manchester City have also entered the race for his signature.

Pep Guardiola views him as a strong fit for their left-sided centre-back role.

Braga have placed a £25 million price tag on Niakate, knowing that interest from two Premier League giants could lead to a bidding war.

While Niakate isn’t considered a wonderkid at this stage, he’s regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Malian football and a valuable asset to Braga.

His contract runs until 2028, meaning the Portuguese side are unlikely to lower their asking price, given his importance.

For United, this represents the type of smart, long-term signing that has often been overlooked in recent years under the Glazers’ ownership.

If the new regime can secure Niakaté’s services, it would reflect a shift towards strategic planning and a stronger recruitment process.
