Manchester United are scouting Europe in a bid to remodel the current squad under new manager Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils spent £600 million on a transfer under Erik ten Hag, however, there has been little success for it, with Amorim preferring a very different style of play.

Whilst some players are adjusting well, with the likes of Amad Diallo thriving under the new head coach, others are struggling to assert themselves.

It’s well known that United are looking for a left-wing-back and a striker in this transfer window, with no current star claiming their right to be the first choice in either slot.

However, with financial pressures on the club, United are having to be smarter in the transfer market.

It’s been reported that The Red Devils are in conversations with Christopher Vivell to make his current role as director of recruitment permanent.

This move will cement the recruitment strategy of the club, with Vivell previously working wonders at RedBull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

For now, however, the scouts are scoring Europe to find the best options for the club, both on the pitch and for the club’s budget.

Manchester United scouts travel to Benfica

O Jogo has reported that Manchester United scouts have been in Portugal watching two significant Taca da Liga games this week.

Tuesday 7th January saw Sporting Lisbon grab a 1-0 win over FC Porto, whilst yesterday saw SL Benfica grab an impressive 3-0 win over SC Braga.

Whilst United have been reported to be scouting several Sporting stars, including goalscorer Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda who grabbed the assist, it’s the Benfica grab which grabbed United’s focus.

Two of the goals were scored by former Red Devil Angel Di Maria, however, the other, came from another former United star, Alvaro Fernandez Carreras.

The left-back left United this summer for £5 million after a loan spell with Benfica last season.

Fernandez departed United without getting a chance to establish himself as the club’s left-back despite long-term injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Although it’s not confirmed who United were scouting on their tour of Portugal, Fernandez seems the most likely target, with their interest in re-signing the 21-year-old well-known.

Whilst United will be making a loss overall on re-signing the star, The Red Devils included a buy-back clause in case of such an event. As such, United would be able to see the star return to Old Trafford for £17 million.
