Manchester United have grabbed their first Premier League win in a month, beating Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Ethan Pinnock got Brentford on the scoreboard first with a headed goal on the brink of half-time. However, The Red Devils came out in the second half fighting, with Alejandro Garnacho scoring the equaliser from a Marcus Rashford assist.
Then, 15 minutes later, a classy back-heeled pass from Bruno Fernandes set up Rasmus Hojlund to score the winner, marking his first Premier League goal this season, returning from injury.
However, it wasn’t just the attackers who deserved praise. Matthijs de Ligt put it all on the line, delivering an awe-inspiring and passionate performance despite a head injury that saw him bloodied in the first half.
Unfortunately, de Ligt was ordered off the pitch before the corner leading to Pinnock’s goal, with the centre-back lashing out pitch-side, kicking a ball in frustration to be off the pitch when they scored.

The win has helped United climb the table again, taking them to eleventh, only six points behind fourth-place still, but widening the gap from the relegation zone from five points to eight.
Manchester United’s injury latest
Going into the match-up with Brentford, United had six players out injured, with long-term injuries. Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Leny Yoro are still on the road to recovery.
Fresh injuries with Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo were only just beginning their recovery, whilst Mason Mount was still side-lined after a head injury against Spurs.
Prior to the game, Erik ten Hag also added another name to the list in the form of Toby Collyer who sustained an injury ruling him out of selection. It’s unknown at this time how severe the injury is or how long he’ll be ruled out for.
With Matthijs de Ligt sustaining a head injury during the game, leaving him bloodied, it’s unknown if he’ll be available for their match-up with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce on 24th October 2024. Although the fact he continued playing the whole game is a good sign.
However, on the other side of it, Hojlund was elated to be back from injury, marking the occasion with a goal and he spoke to MUTV after the game saying: “Obviously, having an injury at the beginning of the season and now being 100 per cent fit is a very good experience,”
He continued: “I’m just trying to bring everything I can every time I step onto the pitch, especially here.”
