Manchester United’s preparations for the 2025/26 season have taken a welcome turn after a trio of key players edged closer to full fitness.

With the new Premier League campaign just around the corner, Ruben Amorim has been overseeing an intense pre-season schedule in the US.

United face Fiorentina next week in their final warm-up fixture at Old Trafford, with Amorim keen to have a near-full squad for that final tune-up ahead of Arsenal’s visit on opening weekend.

The atmosphere around the United camp has remained upbeat, with young talents impressing and tactical drills intensifying daily.

But perhaps the biggest boost comes in the form of positive injury updates, with three senior figures making significant progress in their respective recoveries.

Lisandro Martinez, Joshua Zirkzee, and Andre Onana have all returned to light training in Chicago, raising hopes of their availability for the start of the competitive season, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Lisandro Martinez has not featured since suffering an ACL injury against Crystal Palace back in February.

While still some way off a full return, the Argentine has been working hard on his rehab at the Endeavor Health Performance Center.

He’s been seen running on grass and performing individual ball work but has yet to rejoin full team training.

Zirkzee, who ended last season with a hamstring strain, has been managing a minor pre-season issue while in the US.

The Dutch forward, speaking on tour, said: “I’ve got a small injury but it shouldn’t take too long to recover now.

“I’ve got great physios working with me every day. It’s not a serious problem.”

Onana, meanwhile, is back training following a hamstring tear suffered early in pre-season at Carrington.

Although he has been diving and catching in sessions, he’s being kept out of contact drills.

The Cameroonian has been ruled out of any pre-season minutes on tour but could return for the Fiorentina game.

If not, he is still expected to be available for selection against Arsenal at Old Trafford when the league campaign begins.

United fans will be relieved to see the injury list shrinking — and Amorim will welcome the reinforcements.
