Manchester United are preparing for their Premier League curtain-raiser against Arsenal at Old Trafford, and the squad is shaping up after an intensive summer schedule.

Preseason tours in the U.S. have allowed Ruben Amorim to assess his squad depth, particularly across attack and defence.

Goalkeeping has been a focal point, with second-choice Altay Bayindir and veteran Tom Heaton sharing duties in friendlies.

The Red Devils have also been active in the transfer market, adding Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, while managing potential exits for senior players to balance finances.

Amid all this, fans are particularly focused on who will guard the net as the season begins.

According to ESPN, Andre Onana is ready to start for Manchester United against Arsenal on Sunday, though the final decision lies with head coach Ruben Amorim.

The 29-year-old missed United’s preseason schedule due to a hamstring injury but has returned to full training in recent days.

Andre Onana had been involved in grass training sessions during the U.S. tour but did not feature in any of the three friendly matches, leaving his match fitness in question.

Altay Bayindir has started the last two preseason games against Everton in Atlanta and Fiorentina at Old Trafford, while Tom Heaton, 39, has also shared time between the sticks.

Amorim and his coaching staff are set to monitor Onana over the next 48 hours to assess whether he is ready for a Premier League match or whether the club should rely on Bayindir for the opener.

Sources suggest Onana is confident in his fitness and intends to stay at United for the season.

United’s goalkeeper situation has attracted speculation during the transfer window.

A loan bid for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez was turned down, and reports linking the club to Gianluigi Donnarumma have been dismissed.

Meanwhile, United remain focused on other priorities, including potential exits for Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia.

Any funds freed up could be reinvested in the market for a young, dynamic central midfielder.

Interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba remains, though sources describe the deal as difficult at this stage.

As the Premier League opener approaches, all eyes will be on Onana and Amorim’s decision, which could set the tone for United’s goalkeeping hierarchy for the season.
