Manchester United have faced ongoing difficulties in front of goal under the management of Erik ten Hag.
In an effort to resolve this issue, the Dutch manager sought to bring in a reliable goal-scorer during the last summer transfer window.
The Red Devils were linked with several high-profile forwards, including Harry Kane, but ultimately chose to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.
However, promising young striker Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford.
Unfortunately, he failed to significantly improve his goal-scoring form during the past season. As a result, United’s goal-scoring woes continued.
In a bid to bolster their attacking options, the club decided to bring in Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna this season.

However, Zirkzee also did not have a prolific scoring record during his time in Italy, and United’s struggles to score goals were evident in their opening games this season.
Due to these ongoing issues, United remained keen on signing Ivan Toney, a reported target for the club.
Toney has been on United’s radar for the past two seasons as they searched for a reliable striker to lead their line.
It was even reported that the club had initiated talks to sign the England striker.
However, it now appears that Manchester United will miss out on Toney, as the Brentford forward is on the verge of completing a move to the Saudi Pro League.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Al Ahli, a club in the Saudi Pro League, has reached an agreement with Brentford to sign Ivan Toney for a fee of €42 million.
Romano also reports that Toney has agreed to personal terms with Al Ahli.
The deal now hinges on whether Al Ahli will finalize the signing of Toney or pursue an alternative target, such as Victor Osimhen. The Saudi club is reportedly considering both options as they look to strengthen their squad.
