Manchester United owners, Avram Glazer are looking to broaden their sporting portfolio by buying a new club.
The Glazer family bought Manchester United back in 2005 and are still the majority owners, following Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who bought 27.7% of the club. Ratcliffe’s stake in the club bought the section which controls football operations, leading to the INEOS owner being very hands-on with a redesign of the club, both on the pitch and with its sporting directors.
Alongside United, the Glazers also own NFL side Tampa Bay Buccaneers which they bought in 1995, and cricket team Desert Vipers who play in UAE’s ILT20 competition.

However, they’re now looking at expanding their ownership in the world of cricket.
The Glazers look to buy a stake in London Spirit
The Telegraph reported that The Glazers have been meeting with The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) regarding the London-Spirit team. The MCC has met with six potential buyers this week ahead of a high-profile bidding war for a stake in the club.
London Spirit is one of The Hundred’s cricket franchises, with the news of eight different Hundred clubs being up for grabs being reported earlier in the year.
When the news broke, other investors like Ryan Reynolds, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Tom Brady and RedBul are all looking to get in on the cricket action.
However, The Glazers will be directly up against one of their Premier League rivals in the auction for London Spirit.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is also looking at London Spirit. However, the pair are also up against some other heavy hitters keen on getting a foothold in English cricket.
Reliance Industries, owned by Mukesh Ambani, the owners of the IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise Mumbai Indians are among the runners. These are joined by other IPL teams, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants who are both keen to invest in The Hundred. Finally, we have Liberty Media which is the parent company of Formula One also wanting a slice of the action.
London Spirit is expected to be the highest bidding franchise of the eight being sold. This is partly due to its strategic location in London, but also to its prestigious Lord’s affiliation.
