Manchester United’s summer rebuild is gathering serious momentum under Ruben Amorim, with new signings and exits reshaping the club’s attacking core.

The arrival of Matheus Cunha has already been confirmed in a £62.5 million deal, while CentreDevils exclusively revealed that an agreement for Bryan Mbeumo has been agreed upon.

Several players are also expected to leave, including Jadon Sancho and potentially Marcus Rashford, with the club aiming to create a leaner, more tactically balanced squad.

But while the focus remains on first-team improvements, United have quietly taken a major step to protect their future by securing the next generation of talent from within.

On Monday evening, twelve Academy prospects were officially welcomed as first-year scholars during a special ceremony held at Old Trafford, as Manchester United revealed via the clubs official website.

The event marked the moment these youngsters became full-time footballers, as they joined the Professional Development Phase ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Families gathered proudly as the club inducted its newest intake, continuing the long-standing tradition of promoting youth that defines Manchester United’s identity.

Tom Heaton, fresh off signing a new deal with the club, delivered a powerful message to the players, speaking during a Q&A session with Nick Cox, the club’s Director of Academy.

“There’s fantastic staff at this football club, fantastic facilities, incredible opportunities, but my belief is that your career is your own,” Heaton told the room.

“It’s up to you to take responsibility and ownership.

“Look at yourself, what you’re good at, what you need to get better at, take responsibility for that, keep doing it, keep doing it, and you’ll give yourself the best chance of having a fantastic career.

“This football club demands that young players get an opportunity.

“It’s in the history. So if you do it, you keep doing it, that’s where you should be aiming.”

Academy chief Nick Cox spoke about the pride each player should feel and reminded them of the level of commitment required to succeed at Manchester United, while Under-21s lead coach Travis Binnion outlined what lies ahead across football, education and personal development.

Each player received their official Manchester United club suit – including the iconic blazer worn since the era of Sir Matt Busby – with long-serving staff member Dave Bushell sharing its historical significance.

The new group of first-year scholars includes Noah Ajayi, Neithan Barbosa, Nathaniel-Junior Brown, Yuel Helafu, Eddie Ibrovic-Fletcher, Louie Bradbury, Rafe McCormack, Jay McEvoy, Jayden Ngwashi, Jariyah Shah, Jacob Watson and Zachary Watson.

As the senior side chases trophies, these first-year scholars will begin their own journey, hoping one day to walk out at Old Trafford wearing the first-team shirt.
