Manchester United have been active behind the scenes this summer, making structural changes that could have a long-term impact on the club.

The Red Devils unveiled their plans for the new training ground, with staff and facilities adjustments continuing to take shape.

The club has also been busy monitoring the transfer market, ensuring that incoming and outgoing players are aligned with Ruben Amorim’s plans.

Fan engagement remains a priority, with initiatives to strengthen the Academy’s visibility and connection with local communities.

Manchester United are clearly setting the stage for a period of stability and growth, both on and off the pitch.

In a major development for the future of the club, Stephen Torpey has been appointed Academy Director of Manchester United, to lead all aspects of the club’s youth development system, as the club has announced on their website.

Stephen Torpey joins from Brentford, where he has led the rebuilding of the Premier League club’s youth structure, including the relaunch of a full Academy programme from Under-9s to Under-18s.

The UEFA A licence holder has almost two decades of experience in elite Academy coaching and management, having previously led Academy coaching across all age groups at Manchester City and the Foundation phase at Liverpool.

Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s director of football, said: “After an extensive recruitment process, we are delighted to have appointed Stephen at such an exciting time for our Academy.

“Stephen’s record of youth development is outstanding; throughout his career he has played a significant role in the development of some of the most talented players in the country.

“We will work closely together to ensure that the Academy continues to foster the right environment to nurture our young players individually while developing the best talent ready to excel in our first team.”

Stephen Torpey said: “I am really proud to have this opportunity to lead Manchester United’s Academy.

“It is obviously a great time to be joining as the club enters an exciting new era; I can’t wait to play my role in continuing the incredible tradition of youth development here.

“After spending time with the leadership team, it is clear that the Academy will always remain key to the identity of Manchester United, with our primary aim being to produce players ready to support a first team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”

Torpey will start his new role at the club in the coming months with Nick Cox remaining in place to support a smooth transition before departing to take up the role of Everton technical director.
