This summer has seen a major reshuffle from Manchester United’s squad, as five new arrivals have joined the ranks for the Red Devils and six have departed.

Ruben Amorim made it clear at the start of the summer that Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho had no place in his plans at Old Trafford, wanting them gone from his side.

As such, Rashford and Sancho have gone on loan to Barcelona and Aston Villa, whilst Antony and Garnacho have moved on permanently for a combined £60 million, joining Real Betis and Chelsea.

Alongside them, struggling Erik ten Hag signings Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana have also headed elsewhere on season-long loans, with Hojlund returning to Italy with Napoli, and Onana on the brink of being unveiled by Trabzonspor.

Replacing the departing stars, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Senne Lammens and Diego Leon have all joined Ruben Amorim’s side.

However, Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has raised his concerns over one of United’s signings in particular. Speaking to BetMGM, as reported by Metro, Butt explained his worries that history may be set to repeat itself.

When asked if he was impressed by the signings Untied had made this summer, the former midfielder commented: “I was and I wasn’t.”

He went on to explain: “I know [Matheus] Cunha has done really well over the last couple of seasons but I would really like an experienced striker.

“I hope I’m wrong but I really hope they aren’t making the same mistakes with [Benjamin] Sesko as they did with Rasmus [Hojlund]. A young player coming in with no Premier League experience, it just feels like history repeating itself.

“Honestly, for what it would have cost, I would have gone and brought in someone like Ollie Watkins, someone to help and pull the young strikers out of a bad patch.

“When young players are just coming into the club, when the onus is on them to score goals, if they’re having a few bad games they have to have the safety net of being pulled out of the firing line.

“Ollie Watkins, or someone like that, would be who I would have been looking to bring in.”

Towards the end of the transfer window, Ollie Watkins was a strong contender to move to Old Trafford, however the United recruitment team opted for Sesko after having missed out on Viktor Gyokeres, Hugo Ekitike and Victor Osimhen.

So far Sesko has only played a total of 170 minutes for United across four games, averaging at just under a half per game, with no goals or assists to his name so far.

However, he does come to Old Trafford with a better track record than Rasmus Hojlund which should ease some concerns.

Hojlund joined from Atalanta having scored ten goals and making four assists in 34 games in the season prior to his transfer, however, Sesko nearly doubled this with 21 goals and six assists in 45 games.

As such, the Slovenia international comes to United with a higher goal and assist tally than Hojlund did, and is just easing into life at Old Trafford.
