Manchester United’s inability to deliver results continues as The Red Devils have been knocked out of the FA Cup and now look to their first leg against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.
Ruben Amorim’s men were knocked out at the hands of Fulham as the London-based side got the better of United in penalties.
However, this is only the most recent failing in a run of results which saw the club finish last season’s Premier League campaign in eighth place, now sitting in 14th.
A mix of factors have been the reason for United’s downfall; consistent injury crises, catastrophic and questionable mistakes from Andre Onana, and the lack of a prolific goal-scoring striker.
However, Manchester United legend Gary Pallister has come to the rescue of United’s defenders.

Gary Pallister comes to the defence of Manchester United defenders

Gary Pallister is an absolute legend of Manchester United, having been a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s defence between 1989 and 1998.
Across this time, the former defender won four Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the League Cup, five FA Charity Shields, the UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup.
Needless to say, the 59-year-old knows a thing or two about defending, especially at Old Trafford, with 435 games played in a United shirt, grabbing 15 goals and 12 assists.
Speaking to The Peoples Person, Pallister defended the current United defence, claiming the real error with Amorim’s side comes from the “space we’re allowing teams to get in the midfield.”
The former United star explained: “We’re looking at the amount of goals they’ve conceded. We’ve seen it highlighted on Match of the Day about the spaces we’re allowing teams to get in the midfield.”
He continued: “If the opposition get good possession in front of your back three, your back five, whatever it may be, they’re going to make it twice as difficult for you.
“So it’s not just the three centre-backs, or the wing-backs, it’s everybody.”
The United legend is clear that the whole team needs to take the responsibility of the goals conceded by the squad, not just those that are making up Amorim’s back three.
However, the United defence are experiencing a further set back for the rest of the season, with routine starter Lisandro Martinez out until later this year recovering from a torn ACL.
