As the season draws to a close, we start to get the part of the year where incomings and outgoings start to take place at a football team.

Whether it’s players, coaches, management or directors, the end of the season brings a chance to draw a line under the sand and start again for the following campaign.

For some, it’s also an opportunity to take on a fresh challenge elsewhere.

It seems that one man has already decided that it’s time for him to step away from Old Trafford.

And it’s a big blow to the infrastructure at Manchester United.

Manchester United have officially announced that Adam Lawrence, under-18s lead coach, is leaving the club.

Lawrence will step down at the end of the campaign as he looks to take on a new challenge elsewhere in the footballing world.

Adam Lawrence has been an integral part of the youth team structure at United since joining the club in 2021.

Originally given the role of under-16 lead coach, he’s been the man in charge of the under-18s for the past two years where he’s enjoyed great success.

The Manchester United under-18s won three trophies in 2023/24 and were mighty close to repeating the trick again this year.

A true testament of the work that Adam Lawrence has done is reflected in the pathway to the Manchester United first team.

Eight academy players have made their first team debuts since Lawrence began working in the youth team setup.

The most recent example of that is when Tyler Fredricson made his Manchester United debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Adam Lawrence spoke to the official Manchester United website when announcing his departure from the club.

“It has been a privilege to work for Manchester United,” Lawrence said.

“It has been a very special few years with this group; I’ve been fortunate to work with many of this season’s Under-18s right through from the Under-16s level and witness their growth as people as well as players.

“During the last two years, all the staff across the Professional Development Phase can be very proud of the work we have done to support the players.

“The style of play, the focus on individual development and the culture of the Academy that we have supported; it has been a real privilege to play my part in helping the group.

“I’m now ready for the next challenge but I’ll always cherish the memories made at this great club and can’t wait to see what the future holds for the players I’ve had the pleasure of working with”.

In their statement on the website, the club confirm that the process to find a new under-18s lead coach is underway.

It is expected that a new person will be in charge of that position before the new season starts.
