Manchester United have launched an investigation into an incident prior to one of their recent European football games, whereby players’ boots had gone missing.
Whilst Ruben Amorim’s men have failed to qualify for European competitions after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, United’s women, led by Marc Skinner are still in the Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
Yesterday saw the United Women travel to Bergen, Norway, taking on SK Brann to carry on their journey to book a spot in the main Women’s Champions League competition.
However, BBC Sport has reveeled that between training at Carrington the day before the game and arriving in Bergen, the players’ boots have gone missing, leading to the side having to buy replacement boots from a local shop.
The BBC explains that reports from Bergen claim that Manchester United rang Torshov Sport shop before arriving in the city at 16:30, and bought around 15 pairs of boots and 20 sets of shin pads ahead of their 19:00 kick-off.
Confirming the missing boots, Bergan-native United midfielder Lisa Naalsund explain: “There were a few shoes that disappeared,” she said. “We haven’t quite figured out where they are yet. It was right before we went to the stadium so there was a bit of chaos.”
Now, a United spokesperson commented: “A bag containing some of our players’ boots went missing during the journey to Bergen.”
They continued: “We are investigating how this happened. In the meantime, we secured new boots of the right make and sizes for all the affected players.”
Unfortunately United went on to lose 1-0 in the first-leg, however, if they can pull back an aggregate win when Brann visit Manchester, it will be their first ever Champions League qualification.
