Manchester United restart talks over new contract for Kobbie Mainoo

Manchester United have been keen to lock down their impressive 19-year-old for some time now, having previously held talks to extend his contract.
However, the discussions stalled, as Mainoo’s representatives were calling for £200,000 per week for his client, more representative of his status in the squad and England national team.
Now, The Daily Mail has reported that United have opened the door for contract talks once more.
The report explains that Mainoo’s team wants £180,000 per week, plus bonuses, instead of being one of the lowest-paid players in the squad.
The Red Devils hoping to come to an agreement before the summer, with Premier League rivals looking to swoop if a deal isn’t made.
In the January transfer window, Chelsea were announced as considering a move for the midfielder, with United potentially facing a situation where they may have to agree a move against their wishes.
The youngster has come through the United Academy so represents pure profit under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). As such, the £70 million to £80 million they could command for Mainoo could go a long way to supporting with the club’s financial pressures.
