In a huge twist in events for Manchester United, the club has now backtracked on one of their recent decisions regarding the January transfer window.

United entered the transfer window with no transfer budget allocated for new signings.

With £600 million spent under Erik ten Hag on signings with little to show for it, the club’s hierarchy withheld any funds for transfers, with the club needing to make sales to generate any funds for transfers.

As such, only a handful of stars were off the table, with United open to selling the majority of the squad.

However, now The Guardian has revealed this is no longer the case.

Manchester United consider bids for previous “untouchables”

The Red Devils are now reportedly open to any credible offers for any of their senior squad.

This includes new signings like Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, as well as academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

Whilst United are not actively looking to sell their top stars that were previously deemed “untouchable”, they are now open to considering any serious bids.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has acknowledged the financial pressures the club is experiencing and has previously made significant decisions off the pitch to cut costs. However, this new move recognises that sales have to become a key part of healthy squad management.

This adds an extra layer to any offers for Mainoo, Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.

The trio are products of United’s academy, meaning that under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), they constitute pure profit.

This would in turn support the club with their PSR compliance, helping to further support the finances of the club.

However, it’s worth noting that whilst the club is now open to any genuine offers, this doesn’t automatically mean they will be accepted.
