A crucial European encounter awaits for Manchester United as a depleted squad prepares for their next challenge.

With an FA Cup exit at the hands of Fulham over the weekend, the focus now shifts to securing continental football through the Europa League.

Injury concerns remain high after ten senior players were absent for the penalty shootout defeat, though Patrick Dorgu is back in contention following a domestic suspension.

However, squad options have taken another hit, with teenage forward Chido Obi unavailable for selection in the competition due to registration restrictions.

The first leg against Real Sociedad on Thursday presents another test for a side struggling with depth.

The Europa League permits a 23-man matchday squad, yet recent circumstances forced them to name only 18 players against Fulham.

Training at Carrington on Wednesday should offer early hints on available options, with the official travelling squad set to be confirmed later that day.

Seven players on the revised A-List missed the Fulham match and are unlikely to feature in Spain.

Goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton remain injured, as does fourth-choice Dermot Mee.

If the situation remains unchanged, 17-year-old William Murdock could once again be included in the matchday squad.

Lisandro Martinez is out for the rest of the season following surgery, with Amad Diallo expected to remain sidelined as well.

Mason Mount is progressing towards a return but is not yet fit, while Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw also remain unavailable.

Toby Collyer could soon return, though he is registered on the B-List alongside Kobbie Mainoo, who is out until after the March international break.

There is still an opportunity to register youth players today under the B-List criteria, which require players to be born on or after January 1, 2003, and to have spent two consecutive years with the club or three years including a loan within the same association.

Eligible names include Elyh Harrison, Tyler Fredricson, Jayce Fitzgerald, and Jack Moorhouse, but summer signing Sekou Kone does not meet the criteria, as reported by Manchester World.

Jack Fletcher was added to the A-List last month, while Gabriele Biancheri and James Scanlon could both earn promotion to the first-team setup for the match.
