Manchester United have now officially released Ruben Amorim’s full list of coaching staff, seeing five members of Amorim’s Sporting staff join him at Old Trafford.

This week has seen Amorim taking everything in at his new club, touring Carrington and Old Trafford, and meeting some of his first team players, staff and academy stars.

Today the 39-year-old’s work visa has been approved and is in place for him to begin coaching the first team.

However, he won’t be doing this alone, with United now confirming his team of seven that are aiming to turn things round at Old Trafford.

So lets take a look at the team that Amorim will be surrounding himself with.

Ruben Amorim’s team at Manchester United

Carlos Fernandes – Assistant head coach

It’s no real surprise that Amorim’s right hand man, Carlos Fernandes has moved with him to Manchester as the assistant head coach. Fernandes got into youth management at the young age of 18, being assistant manager to Benfica’s youth squad in 2012. After six years at the club, he moved to Casa Pia, forming part of Amorim’s first coaching team and has since followed him to Braga and Sporting.

Adelio Candido – First team coach

Similarly to Fernandes, Adelio Candido joined Amorim as a first team coach in his first post with Casa Pia, remaining with him ever since. Candido started his management journey at the age of 21, being another young member of Amorim’s team. However, Candido’s appointment is the only one of the five joining from Sporting to still be pending subject to visa.

Emanuel Ferro – First team coach

Getting into youth management at the age of 22, Emanuel Ferro worked initially with the Benfica youth team when Amorim was playing for the squad. However, years later the pair worked together once more at Sporting Lisbon. Ferro was assistant manager to all the youth teams during his time with Lisbon before now following Amorim to Manchester.

Jorge Vital – First-team goalkeeper coach

Jorge Vital has been a goalkeeper coach for 23 years, bouncing between Braga and Sporting Lisbon. Vital moved into coaching after a 20 year career in Portugal across nine clubs including Sporting, Portimonense and Gil Vicente. Now Vital joins Amorim from Sporting after the Portuguese manager hired him to his team in the Portuguese capital from Braga.

Paulo Barreira – Physical performance coach

Paulo Barreira is the most seasoned coach of the five joining from Lisbon, having previously worked in the Premier League. Barreira has previously had stints with Liverpool and Arsenal before working in the Saudi Pro League and the UAE. In 2020, Amorim drafted Barreira into his team at Sporting, and he’s remained by his side ever since.

Craig Mawson – Assistant first-team goalkeeper coach

Craig Mawson has been with United for some time now, having joined from Burnley in 2019. Whilst his playing career was mainly spent bouncing around lower league clubs in England, Mawson was a product of the Burnley youth academy, with his career coming full circle to start his coaching career with the Burnley Under-18s squad. Mawson will be second in command to Vital, having now served under five different United managers.

Andreas Georgson – Set-piece coach

Andreas Georgson was the only member of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff assemble this summer to survive the cut. Having joined from Lillestrom after being set-piece coach with Southampton, Georgson is in charge of all dead-ball scenarios. His coaching career has seen him work extensively with Malmo on three different occasions, split with stints at GIF Nike, Brentford and Arsenal.

Darren Fletcher – Technical Coach

Darren Fletcher has had a seasoned career at Manchester United, both as a player and coach. Across 14 years in midfield, Fletcher made 342 appearances for the club, with 24 goals and 31 assists. He was a part of the squad which won five Premier League titles, four Community Shields, three English League Cups, an FA Cup and a Champions League trophy. Since hanging up his boots, he’s taken on a roll in the coaching team being a bridge between the academy and the first squad, even taking on the roll of technical director for three years between 2021 and this summer.
