Manchester United’s season has been littered with injury issues, with Ruben Amorim often left to deal with several absences.
Currently, Amad Diallo, Joshua Zirkzee, Toby Collyer, Ayden Heaven, Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Diogo Dalot are all sidelined, but that doesn’t begin to delve into the season’s problems.
Scouring through the United squad, it’s rare to spot a player who hasn’t dealt with time away from the pitch this season due to an injury.
The overplaying of football players throughout the country due to fixture congestion is a different conversation, but for Manchester United, it’s clear.
A bigger, better squad is required to allow for extended rotation and a possible reprieve next season from similar issues.
For the rest of the season, however, Amorim will be forced to make do with what he has at his disposal.
And the Portuguese manager, who only arrived in November, has today been dealt a further blow.
According to @UnitedAnalyst7 on X (formerly known as Twitter), United U18s captain Jacob Devaney was substituted due to an injury during a match against Everton U18s.
The midfielder has featured prominently for the U18 side this season, as they have attempted to be crowned champions of the U18 Premier League North.
And with further possible academy call-ups on the cards for the first team’s final Premier League matches, this injury will serve as a significant blow to the 17-year-old.
The seriousness of the injury is yet to be revealed, but Devaney will hope to still have a chance of returning before the end of the season.
The match ended 4-4, after a back-and-forth contest which saw United score a last-minute equaliser through Samuel Lusale.
Gabriele Biancheri, Victor Musa and Jim Thwaites were also on the scoresheet as United fell further behind arch-rivals Manchester City.
