The final tranche of funding from Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has now been confirmed.

Ratcliffe promised nearly £250m for infrastructure development as part of the £1.2bn deal to acquire 27.7% of the Glazers’ shares.

The transaction, finalised in December 2023, was recently logged at Companies House with a backdated entry to December 10.

It showed Red Football Limited, United’s parent company, issuing 100 new shares valued at nearly £80 million.

Ratcliffe has faced criticism from fans for cost-cutting scheme over the past several months.

The dismissal of Sir Alex Ferguson as ambassador received a negative reaction from fans.

As well as the rise in ticket prices, arguably the biggest annoyance to United fans.

However, the outlook may well start to improve following the confirmation of the £250 million funding.

These shares were allocated to Ratcliffe or INEOS, completing his pledged funding contribution.

Ratcliffe’s minority stake gave him control of football strategy, further reducing the Glazers’ involvement.

The funds weren’t allocated for transfers but for infrastructure improvements and financial stability.

About £50m will be invested in redeveloping the Carrington training ground, with the rest aiding cashflow.

This includes covering upcoming transfer instalments and ensuring working capital for the club.

While it didn’t affect United’s Premier League Profitability and Sustainability (PSR) position, it strengthened their balance sheet.

2024/25 marks the final year of the PSR cycle before new squad cost ratio rules come into play.

United narrowly avoided PSR issues for the 2023/24 period but stayed compliant and avoided sanctions.

With Ratcliffe’s investment boosting their position, PSR compliance for 2024/25 seems secure.

It was only in December when Ratcliffe faced criticism around the cost-cutting scheme.

However, the cuts being made in the short-term may well prove to be beneficial in the long-term.

Success will however, always be measured by on-the-pitch results by fans.
