Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s overhaul of operations at Manchester United has taken another major step, as the INEOS-led regime pushes forward with a second wave of sweeping job cuts and internal restructuring.

Among those already told they are leaving are David Harrison, United’s director of football operations, and Richard Hawkins, director of football insights and innovations.

Both were key senior figures under the previous regime.

Both have now been informed they will not be part of the club’s future structure.

At the same time, new appointments continue across several departments.

Michael Sansoni, formerly a senior performance simulation engineer with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team, has joined United to lead the data department.

A hire directly influenced by INEOS’s links to Mercedes.

Elsewhere, Collette Roche, previously focused on stadium operations, is set to take on a new role as chief development officer.

She will spearhead the £2bn stadium project once renovation work at Carrington is completed in July.

Amid the cuts, however, concern is growing inside the club that some of United’s longest-serving and most dedicated employees are being cast aside.

Marie Marron set to depart Manchester United

As reported by Chris Wheeler for the Daily Mail, Marie Marron, the club’s longest-serving employee, is now expected to depart at the end of the season.

Marron, a highly-respected football administrator, has been part of the Old Trafford fabric since 1978.

She is widely known throughout the footballing world.

Her responsibilities have included liaising with the FA, UEFA, and FIFA, overseeing matchday operations.

As well as coordinating with United’s opponents across domestic and European competitions.

She played a crucial role in United’s 1999 Treble season.

She was also even on-site in Spain this week for the Europa League semi-final first leg against Athletic Bilbao.

Described internally as the “voice of VAR” at Old Trafford, Marron’s anticipated departure has raised concerns among some inside the club that the aggressive cuts may be eroding the very identity and culture of Manchester United.

While sources suggest her exit remains a provisional decision, Marron was reportedly informed of the move on Monday.

While others were notified via text on Thursday morning.

The process remains ongoing, but the sentiment is clear.

This is not just a numbers game, it’s a moment of significant change in the soul of Manchester United.
