Lisandro Martinez has been one of Manchester United’s key defenders since arriving from Ajax in 2022, having only missed games due to injury, which unfortunately has been quite often.

Martinez missed 14 games in the 2022/23 season for United and Argentina due to a metatarsal fracture, and 46 for club and county in the 2023/24 season due to foot and knee injuries and calf strain.

Now, Martinez has been ruled out since February with an ACL tear, having had to undergo surgery to aid his recovery.

As such, the Argentina international missed the second half of the season after starting to find his feet under Ruben Amorim.

However, his injury setback seemingly hasn’t affected his place in Ruben Amorim’s plans as the Portuguese manager still has him in his long-term plans.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that United are planning to hold discussions with Lisandro Martinez over a new contract as soon as he returns from injury.

The defender’s contract is currently set to run out in summer 2027, giving him two years left at Old Trafford, however these new talks appear to want to lock Martinez down for even longer.
