During Manchester United’s recent 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, things looked to go from bad to worse, losing 3 points, but also having Lisandro Martinez stretchered off the pitch.

The Argentine defender was seen crying on the floor after jarring his knee in the 82nd minute.

After the game, Ruben Amorim commented on the situation saying: “Licha is really important for us.”

He continued: “Not just as a football player but as a character, especially in this hard moment. Now it’s time to help Licha like he’s doing for so long.

“I think it’s a bad situation. Let’s wait to assess things with the doctor but I think it’s a serious situation.”

Now it appears that United’s fans were right to fear the worst as the centre-back could be ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Manchester Evening News has reported that sources from inside the club think it’s unlikely that he’ll play again this season, with an official update set to come later this week.

The report explains that this new blow for Amorim’s men could see United launch a last-minute dip into the transfer market, with Lisandro Martinez being such a key part of the United squad.

However, nothing has come through as of yet on if a deadline day signing is likely after the recent signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.
