Lisandro Martinez has been out for 8 months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Crystal Palace in February.
The Argentinian was signed by Erik ten Hag before the 22/23 season and is seen as a crucial cog of the team but has struggled massively with injuries.
The trouble began when he played during the start of the 23/24 campaign but looked off the pace and clearly unfit.
Martine eventually went off vs Arsenal then after a spell on the sidelines got injured again in February of that season against West Ham after giving the team a much needed boost.
It wouldn’t be a far cry to say that though he’s an excellent player, his injuries have been his biggest stumbling block since arriving.
When Martinez is in the team, he is the one defender that can drive the ball forward and also make line-breaking passes.
Fortunately, there is now more of a time scale as to when the Argentinian will return to action, and according to Gaston Edul, Martinez plans to return for late October and early November.
With a World Cup year ahead of him, Martinez doesn’t want to be rushed and Manchester United additionally don’t want to rush him, with the important aspect of player care being a necessity in a World Cup year, there is also the danger that Martinez could have a repeat if rushed with the injuries he has had at Old Trafford.
Though is stiff competition, centre-backs in Amorim’s system are the one position where you can compensate three players and Martinez looked to be getting used to the role before getting injured.
United could definitley do with the defender coming back fit and firing, getting a regular span of minutes in the process.
