Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman recently opened up about his shock of former Manchester United star.

Coman, thriving under Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich and maintaining his fitness, has often been linked with a move to United in the past.

United were known to buy ready made players in the past under the days of Jose Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal.

One player who was signed was a certain Paul Pogba.

United re-signed Pogba from Juventus in 2016 for a then-world-record fee of £89 million.

Initially, the midfielder made a strong impact, helping the club win the Carabao Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho.

However, Pogba’s form became inconsistent as his relationship with Mourinho deteriorated.

Although he showed glimpses of brilliance under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, recurring injuries hampered his contributions.

Pogba’s six-year stint at United was ultimately disappointing for fans, who expected him to deliver consistently given his immense talent.

After his departure in 2022, Pogba returned to Juventus but faced further setbacks, including a doping ban that led to the termination of his contract.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, Coman expressed frustration at how United handled Pogba, suggesting the club placed unrealistic expectations on him.

“I was sad about his time in Man U because I felt like they were asking him to do too much,” Coman said.

He pointed out that Pogba was often expected to score, assist, and dominate midfield simultaneously, which affected his ability to focus on his natural game.

“When you’re in the middle and just give the ball to the people, you don’t always need to do crazy things.

But at United, he had to, and that made things harder.”

Coman defended Pogba, claiming the blame lay with the club’s approach. “I really don’t think it was his fault.

“They didn’t ask the same of any other midfielder in the world.”

Pogba, now 31, is a free agent after leaving Juventus in November.

Reports suggest he could return to football in March, with clubs like Marseille and even Manchester City linked to him.

If Pogba manages to regain fitness and form after his 18-month absence, he faces a massive challenge to revive his career.

Whether he will thrive again remains uncertain.

However his legacy as a World Cup winner and one of football’s most scrutinised talents endures.
