Benni McCarthy has been appointed as the new head coach of the Kenya national team.

The news was announced earlier on their official website.

He signed a two-year contract and was officially unveiled on Monday.

His main task is to lead Kenya into the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The tournament will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

McCarthy replaces Francis Kimanzi, who had been in interim charge.

His first match in charge will be a World Cup qualifier against Gambia on March 17.

A week later, Kenya will take on Gabon in another qualifier.

McCarthy expressed his excitement about the opportunity.

Benni McCarthy, who was part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff at United, is familiar with the African game as he’s a South Africa legend himself.

He played a key role in Marcus Rashford’s revival during the 2022-23 season.

United won the Carabao Cup and secured a Champions League spot that season.

Benni McCarthy left the club last summer during INEOS’ reshuffle.

Now, he embarks on a new challenge in international football with the Kenya national team.
