Ahead of the summer transfer season, Manchester United’s search for a striker under Ruben Amorim keeps taking unexpected turns.

In the middle of a congested transfer window, the Red Devils are still looking for talented attackers to expand their offensive options.

The club has had to reevaluate their shortlist and give priority to other alternatives up front after a deal for long-term target Liam Delap fell through and he chose to join Chelsea instead.

In July 2024, Delap left Manchester City, after he played in just six first-team games, to join Ipswich for an initial £15 million ($19.2 million) plus an extra £5 million after they were promoted to the English Premier League.

Liam Delap had an incredible season, scoring 12 goals in the Premier League, despite Ipswich’s difficulties at the bottom of the table and eventual relegation.

Although Wolves’ £62.5 million acquisition of Matheus Cunha is the first big addition, United had always planned to add a striker to their forward line.

A transfer for Cameroon star Bryan Mbeumo seems to be edging closer to with a second bid expected soon for the Brentford F.C star as exclusively revealed by CentreDevils yesterday.

A Premier League veteran would be ideal for the striker position.

This is where Jean-Philippe Mateta came into play.

As per Sky Sports News, Juventus FC are interested in Jean-Philippe Mateta who Manchester United are also interested in.

Sky Sports News also mention how the striker is in negotiations to renew his contract with Crystal Palace F.C.

Mateta’s value is expected to be around £35 million.

Key United officials have long liked the Crystal Palace striker, who excelled with a brace at Old Trafford this season and was instrumental in Palace’s FA Cup-winning campaign.

His physical profile, finishing ability, and Premier League pedigree has made him an attractive option for Amorim.
