Manchester United have named their travelling squad to take on Leeds United in Sweden tomorrow, with Joshua Zirkzee surprisingly left out of the squad.
The Netherlands international is one of two surprising omissions from United’s travelling squad, with Harry Amass also left out as The Red Devils try to find a lon move for the young left-back.
As such, Diego Leon is being handed the opportunity to become Patrick Dorgu’s back-up for the coming season, with Zirkzee left out of the squad for a different reason.

On their official website, Manchester United have reported that Zirkzee has a minor issue which he’s remaining at Carrington to recover from.
Whilst it’s unknown what the specific issue being faced by Zirkzee is, it’s enough to prevent the 24-year-old from travelling to Sweden.
Unfortunately this is a missed opportunity for Zirkzee to establish himself as a strong candidate to lead Amorim’s attack, as the Portuguese manager looks for a new first-choice striker to replace Rasmus Hojlund this summer.

However, the small issue isn’t expected to affect the striker for long, with the Dutchman still expected to join the rest of Ruben Amorim’s men in America for the Premier League Summer Series.
Zirkzee is looking to continue under Amorim this season, whilst an exit is still on the cards for struggling striker Rasmus Hojlund, after failing to provide the consistency needed of a first-choice Premier League striker.
As such, the Dutch striker will be looking to impress on the tour of the States, before a new striker like Ollie Watkins or Benjamin Sesko arrives and cements themselves in that first-choice role.
