Since INEOS’ arrival at Manchester United, the club has undergone a complete restructuring of its hierarchy.

The ownership group have wasted little time in reshaping departments across the board, with football operations now overseen by experienced figures brought in to deliver long-term stability.

Fans have long called for such a structure, one that allows United to keep pace with their rivals in modern football development.

That vision is now being carried through not just at first-team level, but also in the academy – an area the club has always prided itself on.

Stephen Torpey is set to be the next major appointment, as reported by Daily Mail.

The Brentford academy director is expected to replace Nick Cox at the head of United’s academy, having been personally hand-picked by Jason Wilcox.

Cox left the role in June after six years, moving to Everton to become their technical director.

Torpey, who only joined Brentford in January 2024, is highly regarded for his previous work at Manchester City.

He played a key role in the development of talents such as Cole Palmer, James McAtee and Rico Lewis.

His appointment fits United’s plan to secure a “best in class” operator to oversee their academy setup.

Wilcox, who worked alongside Torpey for nearly a decade at City, is keen to reunite with him at Old Trafford.

The deal is expected to be finalised imminently.

Although Brentford were initially reluctant to sanction his departure before finding a replacement, talks have now advanced and the extent of any gardening leave remains to be determined.

Torpey is considered an innovative figure in youth development circles, having pioneered a data-led project at City which set benchmarks measuring social, physical and psychological traits in players.

United fans will continue to be impressed by the new structure in place – a sign that INEOS remain serious in taking United back to the top.
