All the talk around Manchester United has centred on new arrivals this summer – and understandably so.
The additions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo brought energy and invention to the frontline, with both impressing despite the opening-day defeat to Arsenal.
Fans are rightly excited by how these signings can elevate Amorim’s side, but behind the scenes the club are also focused on securing the futures of current stars.
Bruno Fernandes was one high-profile example, choosing to stay at Old Trafford despite lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.
Now, however, another key midfielder’s future has come under the spotlight.

According to BBC Sport’s report, contract talks between Jason Wilcox and Kobbie Mainoo are deadlocked.
The England international has not received an upgrade since breaking into the first team and, despite a deal running until 2027, there is uncertainty around his long-term future.
Mainoo’s rise has been meteoric – from scoring in the FA Cup final to starting the Euro 2024 final.
But, United’s inability to move forward with new terms has raised eyebrows.
Asked about the situation in his press conference, Ruben Amorim deflected questions and pointed to Wilcox, saying: “That part is with Jason.
“He has a contract. I haven’t heard any news on that.”
The stand-off adds an extra layer of intrigue to United’s midfield planning this summer.
Mainoo has struggled to rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s brightest prospects, and questions are now being raised about his suitability for Amorim’s system.
The manager’s midfield pivot demands relentless running and ground coverage, something not considered Mainoo’s natural strength.
And with the two advanced roles further forward better suited to creative 10s, there are genuine concerns over how the 20-year-old fits into United’s long-term setup.
News of Spurs making an enquiry for Mainoo surfaced back in July – United fans would dread to see that coming to fruition.
Certainly an interesting situation to keep a close eye on, amid all the excitement around incomings.
