Jadon Sancho’s future at Manchester United remains as uncertain as ever, with his Old Trafford career stalled and suitors struggling to match his financial expectations.

Roma have been the club most strongly linked with the winger in recent weeks, with manager Gian Gasperini stating the move could still happen.

However, negotiations have proved complicated, with Sancho’s representatives reportedly demanding high fees that scuppered progress.

Just as they did when Juventus explored a deal earlier this summer.

Despite Chelsea dismissing the chance to sign him permanently after last season’s loan spell, Sancho has so far rejected a move away.

Leaving United with little room for manoeuvre as the window ticks down.

At 25 years old and on a reported £300,000 a week, the former England international’s wages remain a huge stumbling block for interested parties.

Now, according to Football Insider, United could have to pay Sancho up to £10million in loyalty payments if he is to leave this summer,

The club had been willing to sanction a sale for around £20million, but former Man City adviser Stefan Borson explained why the deal is far from straightforward.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, he said: “He obviously is not prepared to take a huge wage cut for the final season.

“He’s also probably not prepared to waive the various loyalty payments that are due right now.

“So, he’s not moving until he’s got certainty that he’s going to be paid that £10million.”

Borson added that if Roma’s maximum contribution is £20m, United’s obligation to cover loyalty bonuses effectively reduces the net benefit to just £10m.

A figure the club are reluctant to accept.

Sancho has been left out of both of United’s opening Premier League squads under Ruben Amorim.

His situation remains worryingly unresolved heading into the final weeks of the transfer window.
