Manchester United and England centre-back Harry Maguire has now been handed a fine after pleading guilty to an offence earlier in the year.

This is not Maguire’s first run in with the law though.

The defender was allegedly involved in an altercation with the Greek police while on holiday back in 2020.

The Guardian reported that the United centre-back was found guilty of assaulting police officers, resisting arrest and attempted bribery.

This time however, it’s his driving antics which have landed him in hot water.

Harry Maguire faced with speeding offence

The Sun have reported that on 7th March, the 31-year-old was caught speeding whilst driving his black Land Rover on the A616 near Sheffield. The report explains that Maguire was caught doing 68mph in a 60mph zone.

It’s understood that Maguire pleaded guilty at his first opportunity, avoiding a court appearance. However, he now faces a fine of £1,028.

The total penalty is made up of a £670 fine, three points on his license, a £268 victim surcharge, and £90 in court costs.

The offence occurred just two days before United’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton which Maguire missed out on playing.

Maguire’s struggles at Old Trafford

Unfortunately for Maguire, his run in with the police isn’t his only struggle at the moment.

With the signing of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, Maguire now has even more competition for a spot in United’s starting line up.

Erik ten Hag seems to be favouring de Ligt currently with Yoro out injured, with Lisandro Martinez being a solid constant at the heart of the defence.

Whilst Maguire featured heavily in the starting line up at the start of the Premier League campaign, de Ligt is now finding his feet more in the squad, even grabbing his first goal against Southampton.
