Habeeb Ogunneye has scored his first professional goal for Newport County (on loan from Manchester United) vs MK Dons today.

Ogunneye was born in London and, at the age of 15, made his debut for the club’s victorious Under-18 squad in 2021–2022.

In addition to earning an international cap with the England Under-17s, he went on to acquire more experience in the Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy, the UEFA Youth League, and the FA Youth Cup.

In February 2024, when manager Erik ten Hag had him on the bench for the Emirates FA Cup fifth-round match against Nottingham Forest, he received his first call-up to the senior Manchester United side.

He was also included in the list of substitutes for the Reds’ FA Cup semi-final matchup at Wembley versus Coventry.

Ogunneye will be delighted to score his first professional goal and so will everyone at Manchester United who are watching from afar.

A successful loan could give him future opportunities in the Red Devils’ first team.

Ruben Amorim will for certain be getting updates on his loanees and keep a keen interest in Ogunneye.

The London-born defender is reunited at Newport with Dave Hughes, who left his role as United’s Under-21s assistant manager at the end of last season.

Ogunneye is one of many talented players whom the Red Devils possess.

Their academy has always been filled with quality talent for decades.

JJ Gabriel is the name that has been mentioned the most within Carrington in recent weeks.

At only 14, he is expected to train with the first team this season.

He is so highly regarded that Jason Wilcox, the technical director, directly participated in the negotiations for his new contract.

Against Leeds United in April, JJ Gabriel made his Under-18 debut and made an impression against opponents who were frequently older and physically stronger than him.

Gabriel and Ogunneye are two of many young talents who are both thriving right now at Manchester United.
