With another Manchester United defeat for the Ruben Amorim era often at times pundits and commentators run out of things to say.
Many of the media personnel are former United players which makes things all the more stinging in teh aftermath of a defeat.
As United were comfortably beaten by Man City in the derby, former United right-back Gary Neville had his say on Ruben Amorim.
Neville spoke about the increased pressure Amorim finds himself in due to his insistence on not changing the tactical approach despite it clearly yielding no results.
United are now enduring their worst start to a Premier League campaign since the 1992/93 season with four points from four games confounded by a 3-0 defeat in the Manchester derby to their cross town rivals that could’ve been worse. Despite starting well and having more than enough of their own chances to score the Red Devils found themselves down at half-time.
Despite late chances, there was no sign of a late rally and Erling Haaland’s two goals made sure of the result.
Though Amorim has not been in the job for a full year, the start to the season has upped the pressure he’s under.
According to a report in the Manchester World Neville doesn’t think Amorim’s job is under pressure just this minute, but believes questions will be raised if there is no improvement vs Chelsea: ‘I think there will be some pressure applied to the manager and his rigidity of sticking with the system.’
Neville went on ‘City have beaten them well and comfortably. United had some good moments in the game – the first 15 minutes and the first five minutes of the second half. City, in big moments, have had better players. Foden. Doku, Haaland have stood out.’
The most damning of quotes came when Neville talked about the apathy he felt at United’s performance: ‘There have been times when I have seen United lose this type of match when I feel angry and frustrated. I just feel nothing, which is even worse.’
As the pressure mounts on Amorim, the stakes are huge with the Chelsea game coming up next Saturday.
