Two months ago, former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra saw a dramatic fall from grace with France being handed a 12-month prison sentence for family abandonment.
French outlet Le Parisien reported that Evra owes just under €1 million in alimony to his ex-wife which he has avoided paying.
By refusing to pay alimony to his ex-wife Sandra Evra, the former left-back was found guilty by Judges in the Nanterre suburb of Paris for effectively “abandoning” his ex-wife and their children who are now 19 and 10 years of age.

Now, another former Red Devil has also been given a prison sentence for the same issue.
Former midfielder Anderson has been given jail time in the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegra unless he pays the £45,000 that he owes in child support for his nine children.
A family court judge made the ruling last week, however, the news only became public on 10th September 2024.
The sentence would be 30 days at Irmao Miguel Dario Prison unless he clears the debt.
He has been offered the option of doing his prison time in a ‘semi-open’ regime whereby he could work or study outside the jail during the day but return to sleep at night, according to respected Brazilian news website GZH.
However, this isn’t the first time that Anderson has been at the centre of controversy, as four years ago he was accused of laundering £4.7 million through cryptocurrencies.
At the time, the Brazilian newspaper Globo named him as one of eight people under investigation by a state prosecutor into a scheme designed to divert money from the state stock exchange.
However, it’s not known if that investigation has been closed or is still ongoing.
