Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has unfortunately become the latest high-profile manager to lose his seat this season as Fenerbahçe decide to part ways with The Special One.
Last night, fellow ex-United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was let go by Besiktas as the club crashed out of both the Europa League and the UEFA Conference League.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has take to X to confirm that Mourinho has met the same fate as the former striker.
The 62-year-old joined Fenerbahce back in July 2024, managing the Turkish side throughout last season after a seven-mouth spell away from management after being sacked by AS Roma in January 2024 after two and a half years.
Mourinho managed Fenerbahce to second place in the Super Lig, coming runners-up to record-title holders Galatasaray who added their 25th league title to their trophy cabinet.
It marked the fourth year in a row that the club came second, having come runners-up 12 times in the last 20 years, having not won the league since 2013/14 season.
Despite the strong league performance and getting to the Round of 16 in the Europa League, Fenerbahce’s campaign so far, albeit just started, has not gone quite to plan.
Romano explained that similarly to Solskjaer’s dismissal, the move comes after Fenerbahce have failed to secure European football, more specifically in the Champions League.
Despite being in 7th place in the Super Lig after a goalless draw to Goztepe and a 3-1 win over Kocaelispor, Fenerbahce have crashed out of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers as Mourinho’s former side Benfica beat them 1-0.
