Two weeks ago, it was announced that Turkish side Fenerbahce had made the decision to sack former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
The Special One was appointed to the Super Lig side in July 2024 as the successor to Ismail Kartal, leading the club to their third consecutive year in coming runner-up to Galatasaray.
When asked as to why the club decided to part way with Mourinho, club president Ali Koc commented: “We knew our coach was a defensive player when we brought him in. But at the end of the season, we discussed the need to play more dominantly.”
Koc did also add that there were no issues with Mourinho himself commenting: “Our chemistry was perfect, his success is evident. Just being able to bring him here was a great achievement. More than anything, it was difficult to part with someone I’d become friends with.”
However, Mourinho is now gone, bringing in the need for a new manager, which the Turkish side have unveiled as Domenico Tedesco.
Taking to their official website, Fenerbahce have announced: “Domenico Tedesco has been appointed as the head coach of our club’s professional football team. He has agreed to a two-year contract with Gökhan Gönül, one of our former captains who has worn our striped jersey for many years.
The statement continues: “Details regarding the signing ceremony for our new coaching team will be shared later. We present this to the public.”
Tedesco has been managing since 2013, and has already taken the helm of some major clubs including FC Schalke, RB Leipzig and the Belgium national side, including having won the DFB-Pokal with Leipzig in the 2022/23 season.
Having been with Belgium for the last two years, the national side and Tedesco parted ways in January, with Fenerbahce being his first role since then.
