Manchester United’s summer transfer strategy is already in full swing as the club looks to bounce back from a disappointing first season under INEOS.

Despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding their backroom setup, the Red Devils are pushing ahead with plans to bring in key players ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Matheus Cunha of Wolves has emerged as a priority target, with United reportedly leading the race to sign the Brazilian forward ahead of rival clubs.

United have also made contact over a move for Liam Delap, with the Ipswich Town striker set to be available for just £30 million following his side’s relegation.

While these moves are promising, questions remain over who will lead United’s long-term recruitment direction.

This week, fresh speculation linked the club with one of football’s most respected talent identifiers – Luis Campos.

Luis Campos, who has held senior roles at clubs like Monaco, Lille and PSG, was credited with discovering and developing players such as Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen, and Rafael Leao.

His arrival at Old Trafford would’ve marked a massive coup for the club as they look to rebuild and compete at the top level once again.

The 60-year-old Portuguese sporting director was reportedly in talks with United, prompting excitement among supporters hungry for elite-level decision-making at the top.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now dismissed those reports, stating in a video on his YouTube channel: “We had links with Manchester United.

“But, I’m told, in this moment, Luis Campos is not negotiating with Manchester United. That’s my information.”

He continued: “We had some links to Chelsea, but Chelsea are very happy with their structure.

“We had links with Manchester United, but I am not aware of anything on this.”

Romano’s update pours cold water on the idea of Campos making a Premier League move this summer.

In the meantime, Manchester United’s transfer business is being handled by Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell.

The pair have already started laying the groundwork for the summer window and remain focused on building a stronger squad — with or without a new sporting director.

As of now, no appointment is imminent, but United fans will be hoping the structure behind the scenes matches the ambition shown on the pitch.
