Manchester United’s glorious history is one of the most interesting things about following the club.

It’s grandeur, allure and success has a romantic charm to it that lives on today despite the underwhelming results on the pitch for the last 10 years or so.

Buying match programme’s is a ritual for many football fans. An extremely rare match programme from the club’s tour of Canada all the way back in 1950 is causing a stir after hitting the market and has many suitors.

According to a report in The Daily Mail , the souvenir programme from United’s match vs the National Soccer League (NSL) on May 10th 1950 in Toronto is attracting bids of £2,200.

Suitors are intrigued by the programme as the team page is full of signatures from the NSL team, making it a showpiece and standout from United’s post-war tours.

The souvenir is one of many pieces up for auction on behalf of the family of Jack Rowley, a famous ex-Man Utd forward.

Rowley was an influential figure at United in the post-war years under Sir Matt Busby.

Only three players scored more than Rowley’s exceptional 211 goals: Denis Law (237), Sir Bobby Charlton (249) and Wayne Rooney (253). Rowley won the First Division in 1952 as well as the FA Cup in 1948.

Away from Manchester United, Rowley scored six times in six England caps and managed Plymouth and Oldham to promotion which earned him the managerial post at Ajax in 1963.

Rowley was a goal-scoring legend and part of United’s history, his crowning moment may have been becoming one of the club’s few players to score five goals in a single game vs Yeovil Town in an 8-0 win in February 1949.

The auction is a brilliant opportunity for fans on behalf of the family of Jack Rowley to get their hands on some United memorabilia.
