Marseille, as a club, have recently kicked the 2025-26 season with the men’s and women’s sides aiming for success in the new season.
The men’s side have already played twice in Ligue 1 with the second of these games taking place today.
However, the side look likely to pick up three points from their opening two games with the French side currently leading against Paris FC in their second game which is currently taking place.
But, the first of these matches, against Rennes, ended in a 1-0 defeat.
Meanwhile, the women’s side are preparing for their Premiere Ligue season opener against OL Lyonnes.
But, with Lyonnes picking up all four wins against Marseille in their head to head record, Marseille will arguably be looking for a first taste of success against the opponents.
However, the women’s side could be without one of their key players for this game.
According to La Provence, ex-Manchester United women’s player Maria Thorisdottir is considering her future at the club following an heated argument between Marseille and Club Esportiu Europa in the closing stages of Marseille’s 2-1 pre-season result against the Spanish club which is said to have been shocked by the events.
Previously, Mason Greenwood had been involved in a brawl for the French side in a game against Aston Villa.

The 32-year-old had previously been at Brighton and Hove Albion before joining Marseille this summer as the team’s manager, Frédéric Gonçalves, aimed to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.
Following the new recruit leaving the club’s training camp in Girona last Thursday, she returned to Norway where she is currently resting and reflecting on her future.
Now, attention will turn towards Maria Thorisdottir for a decision before the club’s opening game of the Premiere Ligue season.
But, only time will tell in answering the question of the defender’s future at the club.
