In the wake of their recent sacking of Sean Dyche, Everton are now looking to one of Manchester United’s former manager.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired from management in 2013, United have had six different permanent managers and three other interim managers.

United appointed their most recent boss, Ruben Amorim, in November in a bid to turn the team around after the Portuguese manager successfully transformed Sporting Lisbon to return them to their winning ways.

With Amorim having secured Sporting’s first league title in 19 years, as well as three other trophies, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is hoping the new boss can work the same magic at Old Trafford.

However, one of United’s former managers is now set to have a new challenge of his own, helping Everton avoid relegation.

The Toffees currently sit in 16th place, only a point clear of relegation, admittedly with a game in hand.

Everton, Wolves and Ipswich hold the places between 16th and 18th with only a point between them, with Leicester on two points behind that in 19th.

As such, the relegation battle is heating up with any of the four looking to join Southampton in going down to the Championship next season.

Southampton are at the bottom with only six points, making it highly unlikely they’ll survive the drop this year.

With Everton’s difficult position to cling on to their Premier League place next season, the Merseyside club are banking on United’s ex-boss to bring them success.

David Moyes looking to return to Everton

Sky Sports have reported that David Moyes is currently in talks to return to Everton to help the avoid relegation.

The Scottish manager was in charge of The Toffees between 2002 and 2013, with Everton’s new owners, The Friedkin Group looking at him returning as soon as the weekend.

After leaving West Ham at the end of last season, Moyes has been without a club.

However last month, the former United manager commented on where he’d go next and reflected on his time at Everton.

The 61-year-old commented: “I don’t want to be taking jobs where I have to scrap all the time and be round the bottom of the league.”

He continued: “Most of the time I was at Everton, we were competing for European positions. The last four years at West Ham, three of them have been in Europe.

“I like to think I can do a job at a level rather than just avoiding relegation. I will wait on the right opportunity and if it doesn’t come, I’ll be happy where I am at the moment.”

It’s unsure how these comments set up a return to Everton, given the club are now in the polar opposite position to when he left them.
