Bournemouth were minutes away from a memorable win over Manchester United before Rasmus Hojlund rescued a point with a dramatic late equaliser.

The Danish striker netted his fourth Premier League goal of the season deep into stoppage time to cancel out Antoine Semenyo’s first-half opener.

Ensuring the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium.

The result leaves United stuck in 14th place, while Bournemouth sit 10th.

One point behind Fulham and Brighton as they continue to chase a potential spot in the Europa Conference League.

A major talking point from the game was the red card shown to striker Evanilson in the 70th minute.

A decision that left many divided.

However, as confirmed today via Sky Sports, Bournemouth have successfully appealed the dismissal.

An independent regulatory commission agreed that Evanilson had slipped during his challenge on United wing-back Noussair Mazraoui.

Referee Peter Bankes had initially shown a yellow card but upgraded it to a red after an on-field VAR review.

Despite that, the commission sided with the Cherries’ view that the slip caused the collision.

Thus, overturning the decision and clearing Evanilson to play against Arsenal this weekend.

Dermot Gallagher backed initial Evanilson red card decision

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher insisted he thought it was the right decision to send Evanilson off.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Gallagher cited the danger and force of the tackle despite the slip.

But pundits Sue Smith and Stephen Warnock disagreed, arguing the red was harsh.

“He slips and naturally, that’s the way his legs would go,” said Smith.

“At no point did VAR mention the slip – that should’ve been the first thing they said.”

The successful appeal could prove crucial in Bournemouth’s final run-in as they chase European football for the first time in the club’s history.
